Today the first gecko version was successfully compiled and had it's first test.
It uses the Mozilla ActiveX Control (thanks Adam).
Tomorrow Shahaf's gonna run some serious tests with it and clean things up a bit.

whats up
We've been sitting in the basement coding for some time, and we're cooking up a new version of Bubbles for you.
This will include a completely rewritten client application (this baby may even come shorter of the old version's 250k download), and a new web-site to support the eco-system that's grown around Bubbles.
more news soon,

New version + web-site
We've redone our website, trying to come in with a clear message about what Bubbles is all about.
The new version features a new set of API calls, mainly XmlHttpRequest, Menu-Item-Control, Drag-And-Drop, Script Variables (both session-variables and persistent-variables).
We've introduced some Built-In scripts, mainly the cool new 'Drag files into Flickr'.
So, Have a look and enjoy.

Bubbles + Greasemonkey = funky stuff
We've just released version 1.13, which apart of the usual improvements and bug-fixes includes a great feature we've been cooking in the stove, greasemonkey-like integration.
Version 1.13 allows .bblbox files (Bubble files, these describe what a bubble shows/how it interacts/etc) to contain JavaScript code that is invoked on a per-page basis. This allows rewriting of links, turning alerts into Bubbles - and basically anything you can come up with.

When we showed Vadim this feature, the first thing he did was write a .bblbox file that converts Google-Calendar alerts (e.g 'dinner begins in 5 minutes') into Bubble Balloons, meaning you can minimize your Google-Calendar to the tray and continue receiving your calendar-alerts, GREAT!
Here's the .bblbox file for this Google-Calendar-Bubbles trick, save it to your desktop and double-click.
If you don't have Bubbles, download it here first.
Head over to our Developers page, have a look at the samples, glance at the Reference and take your first shot at a .bblbox file Today!

New version, Developers Page, and Buzzzzzz
We've just released Bubbles v1.12, hip hip hurray. What's in the new version ?
- Right-Click Menus from the system-tray: sites & developers can now provide their own custom system-tray right-click menu. This makes web-sites even more like applications, and makes life easier for users.
- We've opened more things up for developers: Have a look at our Developers page to learn on the .bblbox file, the right-click-menu logic and our sweet extension to the DHTML DOM which allows bubbled sites to do some unbelievable things.
- We've cleaned things up and fixed some bugs to make your experience smoother.
That's all for now folks

Integration with Internet-Explorer
We've just added a new IE Tool Bar Icon that allows you to create a bubble from the current url being viewed. This should make creating bubbles easier and swifter for many users who preffer this method of creating new bubbles.
Want to know more about how Bubble files are stored ? head over to the .bblbox section on our Developers page.Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Bubbles BETA: GMail becomes a desktop application
So, what are all these bubbles about ?
Here's a little taste of our vision about the new wave of web-applications that's booming in.

Bubbles allow you to shrink any web-site into your system tray, keeping it handy and accesible at any time. When the bubble comes up, it gives you the pure web-page, and nothing else.
We've finaly released the first BETA version for Bubbles, we hope it'll rock your little desktop.
I'd like to take this chance to thank all the people who helped build, test and polish our first version.

Revamping 'My Sites' view
After some thought regarding the setting dialog we decided the current UI is not as good as we hoped.
The URL list control will change to show recently-used URLs and will be owner-drawn, so a lot of functionality will be in the list, like opening-on-startup, favicons, etc.
The "add to start up" combo box is moving and the functionality is being moved to the list control itself.
We're trying to put a lot of thought about making life easier for you guys, the users :-) so feel free to flame us if we accidentaly got something wrongSome of this stuff will only show up in the next version.

Extend yourself with *.bblbox
Just added support for text files containing urls, or '.bblbox' files (someone has to make a zaphod.bblbox file).
These files provide for a 1-click bubble install/open process.
Site-Owners can put up a link to the .bblbox file containing their site's URL, and users can get a bubble to their site with this 1 click.
Go ahead, try it out

IE version tests complete
We've just finished testing the default feature set. All the hardwork is behind, and we're now fiddling with new features to be in the first released version.
Any suggestions?
